Agricultural activities generate large amounts of biomass residues. Whilst most crop residues are left in the field to reduce erosion and recycle nutrients back into the soil, some can be used to promote energy without harming the soil. Other wastes such as husk from rice, sunflower production and kernel shells from palm trees can also be used to promote energy whilst reducing disposal costs and pollution.
Biomass energy has the potential to supply a significant proportion of our energy needs, whilst stimulating local economies and also reducing pollution.
